Velia began her career at the age of 14 as a member of the Australian Theater for Young People where she was featured in popular Australian plays under a full schedule of 4 productions a year. 5 years later, she shifted her focus from acting to singing and started vocal training with a member of the Australian Opera Company. From there she went on to explore contemporary singing with Australian superstar, Marcia Hines. She has been performing professionally for 10 years, and 5 of those years were spent playing the Sydney club circuit in various cover bands such as All the Ingredients, Cocktail Boogaloo and 2/4 Groove. The latter band won an opening spot for Australian pop star, Margaret Urlich. Since arriving in the San Francisco Bay Area, Velia has formed her first original band and released her debut CD "Something Has To Change" in June, 2000. Due to the international exposure afforded by the internet, she has received accolades from countries such as Brazil, Sweden, China and Australia, and the single "Joining Up" has been aired on college radio stations in Russia and Indianapolis, (USA). Velia has made a television appearance on Showcase as well as San Francisco's Bay TV program The Show and has been well received in renowned San Francisco clubs such as the Paradise Lounge, Sweetwater and the Velvet Lounge. She is currently writing and recording new material for her second album.
